The Final Project

In my journey towards the end of of my Professional Imaging class, the last project we were given was the Personal Style Project. This project has each student focus on what their style of photography is. I chose to focus on Portraiture. As of right now, my dream is to have my own photography business doing small portrait style sessions such as: senior photos, engagements, family photos, and couple photos. This post is a break down of how I went about planning and executing my final project.

Below are my mock-ups of the 2 prints I did for my project. I chose to design and print my business cards, as well as make up a little wallet-size flip-book type to show off some of my best portraits to show future clients. I chose to print both of these because I knew that business cards were the next step for me as I grow my business, and I also wanted something tangible to show my clients a brief preview of my work. Below are the 2 mock-ups of these prints.

If you’ve seen my two previous blog posts, then you’ve seen the photos below. I’ve put in the best photos from my 2 photoshoots that I will be using in my wallet-size print. These photoshoots were a blast to do and it helped me use and practice the photography skills I have accumulated throughout my classes.

Below is my proposal for this final project. It outlines my process and what the end result will be. This was a fun project to do because it helped me focus more on what I wanted for my photography career and what my next step will be.

If I had to sum up the way I view photography, this would be it. This quote is on every single page of my website and It explains perfectly what photography means to me. Many people view photography as easy, and something that anyone can do with their iPhone or Android. But they don’t know the difference like someone who has taken extensive courses. It’s not all about the object you use to take your photo, but it’s about the person behind the camera and their creative outlook.

For my Personal Style Project, I have chosen to focus on portraiture. Specifically, individual and group photography. Whether it’s just for fun, to update pictures for social media, or to celebrate a graduation or special holiday. These are the moments that people cherish the most and want to be documented and I’m now ready to share my talents with them.

Posted above are the 2 prints I wanted to share with you. The first is my business card. I’ve designed it myself on Canva and got it printed to hand out to anyone who is interested. The 2nd is this neat accordion wallet-style portfolio to show a brief look at my work. I wanted something unique but also tangible to show my clients to go along with my work on my website.

It took me a while to discover my specific style of photography because there are so many styles out there, but I think the most fun style is portraiture because it connects you to people around you. Everyone has a specific story to share and after talking with clients for a while, you can then incorporate their personalities in their photos. It will make the photo more meaningful because each time they look at that photo, they’ll also remember the experience they had with you as a photographer.

Like the quote states…”It’s about finding something interesting in an ordinary place…” I have taken the courses, I have spent the time gaining the knowledge needed to create my own style of photography and creative perspective, and I am ready to capture the amazing moments my clients plan to share with me.
